It's A Sunny Day!

"Humphrey who?!?!! Who's this girl?!"
"Let's play ball!"
Please join us in welcoming our newest addition!
                                           Name: Sundance  A.K.A. Sunny
                                           Weight:  42 lbs.
                                           Gotcha Date: October 31, 2012
                                           Breed:  Pointer
Pick up from the shelter time: 2:30 p.m.

Her story:  Found roaming in a field with a Bearded Collie.
Has spent the last few months at our local
shelter waiting for her furever home.
By the way, she's AMAZING!  She can sit, come, fetch, heel on a loose leash, and give great big huge smoochies!!!  We've been visitng her at the shelter for a few weeks, we couldn't take her home sooner due to the rules the shelter has.  She required a vet visit we couldn't get any sooner than Oct 31st.  We've enjoyed the time at the shelter with Sunny.  It's given us a chance to get know her rather than rushing her into the pack.

Sit 'n Stay in the Saddle with Brando and Bogart

We are very excited to introduce our newest blog.  Sit 'n Stay in the Saddle with Brando and Bogart will be about our travels in the west, and will include a soon to be new member of our family, a horse!  The pups have had a little experience with equine, so we've been reading up, and talking to animal handlers about the proper way to adapt them to our newest four legged family member.  This adventure has also been slow in the making to insure the safety of our children.  We want to make sure we have a perfect match all the way around.

We've also been trying to find things to do that we couldn't or hadn't done in Chicago or Albuquerque.  One of those things is to apply for a livestock brand.  Dont worry!  Nobody around here is getting branded, we hope to use it as a family logo.  There are so many wonderful brands.  They stand out proudly on the sides of ranch homes, on farm vehicles, or hang on handmade copper cut-outs at the entrance of a property.  Our brand is still in the approval stage.  Our daughter sketched a pup that looks like a Cavalier for our brand.  All fingers and paws crossed it will be approved, and as soon as it is, we'll post it here first!

Get along lil' doggies (and kitty friends too!) please join us at Sit 'n Stay in the Saddle with Brando and Bogart.

P.S.  We'd like to thank everyone for the kind words during our very awful relocation (Thank you Hawk BrownDog that's the perfect word!!!).  My Dogs Love Me even made me cry.  (Good tears!)Some of our friends have been asking what's been going on with the nightmare that won't go away, honestly, we've been trying to avoid the whole thing.  Since this relocation is not going away for a while, we'll share the horror story as our next post.  Thank you again, each and everyone of you means the world to us!

Nutro Party Picture Postcard

We wanted to share some pup friends we met during our Nutro Party.  My daughter made adorable puppy cupcakes, but I'm having trouble with blogger, and the photo won't post.  For now, I'll share this picture postcard, and as soon as we get to a better WIFI hotspot, I'll post more photos.

Nutro Party

Recently, we were contacted by Nutro to host a Small Breed Taste Testing Party.  We were delighted.  We will be hosting our party in the days to come.

We'd like to apologize to Nutro for hosting our party at such a late date, but due to our current lack of
living arrangements, it's made our party more challenging to host.  We'd also like to thank Nutro for such a wonderful opportunity.  The supplies are fantastic!

We are very familiar with the Nutro brand in our "home."  Nutro is the only brand of food that Humphrey can eat without causing him weight gain.  We've tried every type of diet (including homemade recipes), and Humphrey would still pack on the pounds.  Also, their grain free food is perfect for pups, like CoCo, who experience tear stains.

Nutro's small breed line is excellent.  The tiny morsels are perfect for small breeds.

We hope you'll stay tuned for photos from our Nutro Small Breed Taste Testing Party.

Terrible Move

Dear Blogging Buddies,

Before we begin, we would like to apologize to all of our blogger friends.  Lately, it's been very difficult trying to write for the blog. We've been trying to find a way to visit everyone, but we don't have Internet connection.  We are going to be stopping by McDonald's to post this, and to come by and say hi.

Our move has been nothing short of a nightmare.  We are just over a month into it, and we still haven't found a place to live.  Right now, we are in temporary housing until the 16th. We wanted to stay here, but our landlord is very strange.  She won't let us have mail, we can't have phone service (hence, no internet), she won't let us have garbage service.....the list goes on and on.  It seemed like things were going to be okay in the beginning, but everything fell apart very quickly.  Then there was the fire.......

In this mess of trying to find a place, without being scammed out of our money, we lost Cleo, and our girl, Rosie.  I cried like a baby.  There will never be a pup as gentle as Rosie.  Rosie was a German Shepard mix that we adopted from the animal shelter in Chicago.  We were taking our time in looking for a pup, when we found Rosie.  We spent weeks going back and forth to the shelter.  One week Rosie was there, the next she was gone.  Then the next week would come, and she'd be back.  This pattern of back and forth went on for a while.  She kept getting adopted, only to be returned.  It turned out she was perfect for us.  I can't imagine what the problem was.  All she ever did was ball herself up, and sleep on the couch! Cleo was the opposite of Rosie.  She followed us around, was always under our feet, waiting for her next job.  She loved Tim.  When he came home from work, she'd jump off all fours straight into the air.  I've never seen a pup jump so high!

My love for them has made me love the Cavaliers, and CoCo, that much more. Let's move on before I start to cry, again.

In trying to distract ourselves from this chaos, I stumbled upon something exciting to do with Humphrey.  Hunting for shed deer antlers.  He's really good at it, except he wants to gnaw on them before returning the antler to us! He looks at us like "Hey! Finders Keepers!"  I think by January, he'll be ready to go!  He's also started training towards service dog.  Moving has made him a little shy. The trainer thinks he'll get over it once we are settled in, and we all have a routine.

I could type all day so we could catch up on the antics of Brando, Humphrey, Ziggy, and CoCo.  Instead, I'll leave you with some photos. We wish everyone well.  Hope to be back to blogging really soon.

Sending many licks, and nuzzles around the neck,

Brando, Humphrey, Ziggy and CoCo

P.S. We will be starting a new blog in the very near future.  Although things haven't been turning out quite the way we've hoped for, we are always looking for a new adventure.  That blog will be about our latest animal adventure.

There is no music in this post as a moment of silence for the loss of our pups.

Hartz and the Wounded Warrior Project

Recently, we were contacted by Hartz representative Megan Fleming, to help raise awareness of the collaborative effort of Hartz, and the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Wounded Warrior Project was founded in 2003.  Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, took action to help others in need. What started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to civilian life. Thousands of wounded warriors and caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs designed to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment. (Info from the WWP website https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/default.aspx?tsid=172)

You might be wondering how the WWP fits into a blog about dogs.  The WWP provides canine therapy to assist soldiers.  (After Action, Volume 3, 2010) Having a dog during the recovery process allows warriors to avoid the awkwardness of  transitioning back into society. In other words, people focus on the dog, and not on the rehabilitating warrior.

In order to raise awareness and support from pet parents all over the nation, Hartz has started two major initiatives:

Hartz is encouraging their fans on Facebook to change their Facebook profile and cover pictures to a Wounded Warrior Project image to honor our brave servicemen and women. To change your profile and/or cover picture, please visit the Hartz Facebook page.

Check this out!!!

Hartz has recently released special WWP Military Dog toys created in collaboration with the WWP. For each Military Dog toy sold, Hartz will donate $1 to the WWP. (The toys can be found nationally at Amazon.com and Walmart through the end of May).

You can also use this link to view one of the toys:

In the first two years of the partnership with the WWP,  Hartz has already been able to contribute $265,000.

This is an easy way to help support an important cause.  Hope you'll show your support for the Wounded Warrior Project.  We salute the men and women of The Armed Forces.

Support Our Troops!

Annular Solar Eclipse

"Humphrey, which way is the
sun?" Brando wondered.

"The humans told us NOT to look
at the sun."

"Wow! The sky is orange! But
remember DON"T look
at the sun!!"

"Bright and orange, but dont look! We have to
be safe!"

Annular Eclipse!

Humphrey took a bite out of it! BOL!

Moving Hint #3
This eclipse was not visible from
the place we are moving to!!

Also, we've decided to host a
contest.  Since we've never
done this before, we're still trying to figure
it out.  Any suggestions would
help! The closest guess wins,
but what should the prize be?!

How does a wooden cupcake, a door knob, and an ant bed fit into these pictures?

Its really quite simple--or not!

We now know they lead an emergency room visit.

Yesterday, being Friday the 13th, proved to be a unlucky day for someone.

Our little guy was playing with his wooden cupcakes, and dropped one onto Chris' foot.  She hemmed, and hawed about going to the doctor. Is it broken or is it just a bump?  Does the black and blue mean it is really broken or, again, just a bump?  Chris said she was fine, and went about the day.

Chris always works with the pups in the backyard with our homemade agility equipment. (In the pictures above CoCo is having her try on the jumps).   OK, well, let me set this up right.

Chris was working with CoCo, being so little we don't  push her.  She was standing next to a jump and CoCo was in line ready to jump.  She was ready to deliver a treat to CoCo.  That is when it all went south.  Seems Chris was standing near a ant bed, and they decided to feast on her foot.  Yep, she was being bitten by several ants.  She tried to swat them off her feet, and twisted her knee. Reeling from the pain, she hit her head on the door knob on the way into the house.  The deciding factor to rush to the hospital was the shiney swollen foot.  She was complaining her foot was on FIRE!!   After a four hour hospital visit, we know nothing except she is in pain, and she did get bitten by several ants.  The X-rays are still pending due to all of the swelling inside of both her foot and knee. She was having an allergic reaction to the ant bites.   Can you say crutches, a walking shoe, knee brace, and a SHOT!  You can guess where!  She can breath with extreme caution, until Monday when the doctor is supposed to call to confirm the extent of the injuries.

Tim may have wrote this whole long thing about this horrible day, but let me tell you, I'm ready to go hike the foothills!  But....Tim won't let me!

Come Bark with us, we need it!!
